The Incredibe Growing Baby
According to conventional wisdom, a baby should double its birth weight by the time they're six months old.
It took Millie less than four months.
At her latest checkup, Amelia Rose joined some elite company.
With a head circumference of 16.5 inches, she is ranked in the 70th percentile. That's up an inch and a quarter from just two months ago when she was ranked in the 50th percentile.
She grew 2 and 1/4 inches from two months ago and now stands (well, mostly sits and lays down) at 2-foot-1 1/4. Two months ago she ranked in the 75th percentile. She is currently in the 80th percentile.
And in the pink corner, weighing in at 16 pounds, 11 ounces, Millie "The Mauler" Hoesing! That's right folks, 16 pounds, 11 ounces. That places her squarely in the 95th percentile, up from 12 pounds, 3 ounces at her two month checkup which had her in the 75th percentile.
That got us thinking. We did some crude number crunching and here are some of the projections of Millie's growth:
At age 5, Millie will stand 3 feet tall, weigh 33 pounds and wear a men's XL fitted hat. Yikes.

Amelia: First Blood
Much like John Rambo, Amelia survived her first in a series of harrowing but necessary events...her dreaded first set of vaccinations.
It was Millie's first trip to the doctor since her two week checkup and Mom and Dad were very excited to check on her progress. Millie weighed in at 12 lbs., 3 oz putting her in the 75th percentile. She measured in at 23 inches long which also was in the 75th percentile. Her head circumference was 15.25 inches which placed her in the 50th percentile.
Simple measurements, however, were not an apt warm-up for the impending doom.
Oh, the humanity.
With the precision of, say a trained medical practitioner, Gina the nurse came in with three needles and within the blink of an eye had Amelia vaccinated for the first time. It was quickly determined that Millie is a bleeder and a screamer.
And a survivor.
Dr. Amy said that it was not uncommon for vomiting and fever to occur. Fortunately, Millie dodged the vomiting but did get hit with a bit of the fever. Nothing a little Baby Tylenol couldn't fix.

Visitors
Over the past week, Millie has had some visitors. Last weekend, our friends Todd and Kourtney DeFreece came to visit from Iowa City. We had a great time going to dinner, which Amelia slept through.
On Tuesday, Aunt Wendy, Uncle Alan, Grandma Pat, and cousins Jack and Will came to visit Amelia and Mom. Will even got to burp Amelia after she ate.
Two week checkup
Last Wednesday, we took Millie to her two week checkup with Dr. Amy. Amelia was measured and weighed. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 10.5 ounces, which is still about 2 ounces less than her birth weight. Dr. Amy was not concerned despite her not being at her birthweight at the two-week mark. Amelia was measured at 20.5 inches, up an inch from her birthday. Both Millie's height and weight were in the 25th percentile. Our next scheduled visit will be for Amelia's 2 month checkup. At that point, we will begin her vaccinations.

My final alien remnants
Last night, I decided to shed my last interuteran connection--my belly button stub. Because my verbal skills are yet to be fully realized, I chose to clue the parents by pooping and emitting an awful stench. Even so, it took my sleepy father a minute to realize that it was gone. In what seems to be a developing pattern, he became squeamish and made my mother search for the remains, (which if you forget, looks like a raisin attached to a Serger stitch). Not only did she find it, but it seems that she is planning on keeping it for posterity. What's with these people?

Afternoon At The Zoo...
It appears as if the papa bear is frightened upon realizing his cub is, indeed, half polar bear.
